Create a mailbox for each customer from your backend
Your app can give every customer their own email address: for receipts they forward, documents they send in, or alerts from their other tools. Your backend creates the mailboxes through the API. Customers never sign up for Revdoku.
curl -s -X POST https://api.revdoku.com/v1/mailboxes \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $REVDOKU_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"mailbox": {"email": {"username": "acme-orders"}}}'
The response has data.mailbox.id and the confirmed data.mailbox.email.address. Store both next to your customer ID. Creating mailboxes needs a key with Full access to all mailboxes. After a timeout, list mailboxes before you try again, and never repeat a create automatically.
Customer addresses can use your own domain, such as acme@inbox.yourapp.com.
Read each customer’s email
| Step | How |
|---|---|
| Learn about new email | One signed HTTPS webhook per mailbox (email.received, with IDs only), or polling with a saved cursor |
| Read the message | GET /v1/mailboxes/{id}/emails/{email_id} returns the decoded subject, sender, body text and attachment list |
| Get attachments | Each download is a temporary signed link, so your app never handles raw MIME |
| Answer the sender | Reply with in_reply_to; replies go only to people who emailed the mailbox and passed sender authentication |
Map every request to the right mailbox on your server, and reject a mailbox ID that belongs to another customer. Readers can use a key with Read only access to the mailboxes they need.
What you do not have to build
- A mail server, MX records or a MIME parser.
- Attachment storage, with versions and an activity log for every file.
- Malware and virus scanning for every incoming email.
- Junk and prompt-injection labels, with the content of
Junkemail withheld from your agents. Some agent inboxes leave these checks to your code; see Revdoku vs Robotomail. - EU hosting for email and files.
The SaaS mailbox guide covers mapping, retries, capacity planning and runnable examples. Every endpoint is in the API reference.
